Of course we don't do anything the simple way. We had to start the trip RIGHT after Jay left his job; Michelle had to fly down to Florida ahead of Jay (so he drove Big Blue 600 miles alone), and we met up in an pleasant RV park that actually has more permanent residents than transient.
And everyone looks at us and says "DANG, THAT THING IS BIG!!"
I'm sure we will be hearing a lot of that....
We have a note pad on the counter and we are making a list of all the things we missed packing and/or have discovered we will need. That will likely be a constantly updated list!
Michelle is in the bedroom, "nesting", and trying out the washer for the first time. So far, so good. That will likely be a very nice amenity in the RV. Of course it is on the small side, but if we stay up on the laundry it might be an easy routine. And we're only wearing t-shirts and shorts, right??
You can See Michelle in the back bedroom while Jay sits in a recliner. Life is taking on a good routine at this point!
Our itinerary is sort of developed, but we plan to have some flexibility. We will leave Orlando in the morning (5/3) and head to Savannah, Georgia. We have heard that it's a lovely, quaint area and we would like a few days there. We then plan to go to Myrtle Beach, SC to attend a Heavy Duty Truck Rally (people that have a truck like our Big Blue to pull their RV's). This is a small rally of folks that live near the East coast; the big National rally is held in Kansas each October. We don't know if we will make that. It seems so far away!
During our trip Michelle has committed to doing monthly practice with her quartet, and her first trip back (to Atlanta) will happen after the HDT rally. Jay thinks he will just stay in Myrtle beach for while she is gone (why not?) and when she returns we will bop around North Carolina to visit some friends. Then off to Pennsylvania to visit an old family friend of Michelle's (a Sweet Adeline that used to babysit her!) and then off to the motherland of Canada.
Our Canadian travels are still a bit of wet clay. We might try to see Jay's cousin Dave and wife Peggy, and perhaps Quebec City, perhaps an evening in Moncton to see an old business acquaintance of Jay's and then to Notre Mer (our cottage). We plan to be at Notre Mer for June, most of July, and all of September. We've never really hung out there like we "lived there", and we (Jay!!) are really looking forward to pretending, at least for a summer.
Well, its off to Home Depot, Best Buy and who knows what else. We will depart in the morning for Savannah and let you know how that goes!
Jay, sorry but I have to ask the obvious question.....to what THING were the fellow campers referring?
ReplyDeleteNora - they were referring to the entire "rig". It's 72ft long, and even longer when I have it disconnected. Most Rv's are about 38ft or so, and with 20ft or so with a tow vehicle they are still under 60ft.
ReplyDeletei guess I'm just a stud.
Wow! Ya'll are going to have so much fun! Safe Travels! Jay please give Michelle a big 'ole Lorie Hug for me!!!
